Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vanillyl alcohol is a naturally occurring aromatic phenolic compound classified as a small molecule. It is structurally related to vanillin and is found in some plants. Vanillyl alcohol has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, anti-convulsive, and antioxidant activities in preclinical studies[1][5]. It has been investigated for its potential use in the treatment of smoking addiction[2]. Mechanistically, it exhibits radical scavenging activity and may protect against oxidative stress-induced cellular damage[5]. Vanillyl alcohol is also used as a flavoring agent in foods and beverages[5].
