Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vanqua Bio is developing CNS-penetrant small molecule antagonists of the C5aR1 (complement component 5a receptor 1) for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. These compounds are designed to cross the blood-brain barrier and target C5aR1 in the central nervous system to reduce neuroinflammation and slow disease progression. This program is distinct from Vanqua's peripheral C5aR1 antagonist, VQ-201, which was licensed to Biogen in October 2025. The program is currently in preclinical development and represents a first-in-class approach to targeting complement-mediated neuroinflammation in the brain.
