Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vantobra is a highly concentrated inhalation solution of the aminoglycoside antibiotic tobramycin, specifically formulated for delivery via the eFlow technology (using the Tolero nebulizer). Developed by Pari Pharma, it contains 170 mg of tobramycin in a 1.7 mL solution, representing a significantly more concentrated dose than the standard TOBI formulation (300 mg in 5 mL). This increased concentration, combined with the efficient eFlow vibrating membrane nebulizer, significantly reduces inhalation time for patients. Its primary indication is the management of chronic pulmonary infections caused by *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* in patients aged 6 years and older with cystic fibrosis. Tobramycin acts by entering bacterial cells and binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, which disrupts protein synthesis and leads to bacterial cell death.
