Overview

**Varicella Biken** is a live attenuated varicella-zoster virus (VZV) vaccine developed by the Biken Institute (Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, Osaka University) for the prevention of chickenpox (varicella). It induces active immunity by stimulating the production of antibodies against VZV, a highly contagious virus that causes mild illness in most cases but can lead to serious complications like pneumonia, encephalitis, or Reye's syndrome. Administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly in two doses, it has been evaluated in clinical trials, including a completed Phase 4 study (NCT00830648) assessing the safety of a second dose.[2]
