Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Varicella vaccine, live is a live-attenuated viral vaccine developed by Shanghai Rongsheng Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. for the prevention of varicella (chickenpox) caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). The vaccine is typically based on the Oka strain of VZV, which has been attenuated through serial passage in various cell cultures. Upon administration, the attenuated virus undergoes limited replication, mimicking a natural infection to stimulate the production of VZV-specific antibodies and activate cell-mediated immunity (T-cell response). This provides long-term protection against primary infection and reduces the severity of the disease if breakthrough infection occurs. It is primarily indicated for children, adolescents, and susceptible adults.
