Overview

Varicella virus vaccine live is a biologic vaccine containing the live, attenuated Oka/Merck strain of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), developed to induce active immunity against chickenpox (varicella). The mechanism of action involves stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies and cell-mediated responses that protect against VZV infection. It is primarily indicated for immunization in individuals 12 months of age and older who have not had chickenpox, with two doses recommended for full protection. The vaccine is available as a monovalent formulation (Varivax) and as part of combination vaccines in some regions. It significantly reduces both incidence and severity of chickenpox[1][2][3][5][8].
