Overview

Varirid is a live attenuated varicella vaccine developed and manufactured by Changchun Keygen Biological Products Co., Ltd. It is based on the Oka strain of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), which is the standard strain used in most global varicella vaccines. The vaccine is indicated for the prevention of varicella (chickenpox) in individuals aged 12 months and older. It contains at least 2000 plaque-forming units (PFU) of the weakened virus per 0.5 mL dose. Clinical evaluation has included Phase 4 studies to determine the optimal timing for a second dose, comparing intervals of 1, 3, and 5 years post-initial vaccination.
