Overview

Varlilumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody that targets the CD27 receptor, a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily expressed on T-cells, B-cells, and NK cells. Developed as an immunotherapy for solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, varlilumab acts as an agonist anti-CD27 antibody. Its mechanism of action involves stimulating immune activation by binding to CD27 and promoting T-cell proliferation and activation, leading to enhanced antitumor immunity. It can also directly target and destroy CD27-expressing tumor cells through mechanisms such as antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC). Varlilumab is being developed by Celldex.
