Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vasa-1 (also known as VT1) is a clinical-stage therapeutic candidate being developed by Orphinic Scientific for the treatment of Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF) and diastolic heart failure. The drug utilizes a proprietary scaffold to target matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a family of enzymes involved in the remodeling of the cardiac extracellular matrix. In HFpEF, maladaptive MMP activity contributes to myocardial fibrosis and structural changes that impair cardiac relaxation and filling. By inhibiting MMP activity, Vasa-1 aims to mitigate these fibrotic processes and improve diastolic function, addressing a significant unmet need in cardiovascular medicine.
