Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VAX-XL is a third-generation pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) candidate being developed by Vaxcyte. It is designed to provide the broadest coverage of any PCV currently in development, targeting a wide range of Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes responsible for invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD), including meningitis and bacteremia. The vaccine uses advanced synthetic techniques and the XpressCF cell-free protein synthesis platform to produce high-fidelity proteins and antigens, aiming to improve immunological benefits over existing vaccines. As of May 2025, VAX-XL remains in preclinical development for the prevention of pneumococcal infections[1][3][8][9].
