Overview

VAX125 is a recombinant fusion protein influenza vaccine candidate developed for the prevention of seasonal and pandemic influenza A virus infections. It consists of the globular head domain (HA1) of the hemagglutinin protein from the A/Solomon Islands/3/2006 (H1N1) influenza virus genetically fused to flagellin, a bacterial protein that acts as a potent immunostimulant via Toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5). The vaccine is produced in Escherichia coli. Its mechanism leverages both antigen presentation and innate immune activation through TLR5 agonism to enhance immunogenicity, particularly in populations with poor responses to conventional vaccines such as the elderly. Clinical trials demonstrated that VAX125 was generally well tolerated and capable of inducing robust antibody responses[1][2][4][6].
