Overview

VAX161 is a recombinant fusion protein vaccine developed for the prevention of pandemic avian influenza (bird flu) caused by the influenza A virus subtype H5N1. It consists of the globular head domain of the hemagglutinin antigen (HA) from influenza A HA5 Indonesia fused to Salmonella typhimurium flagellin type 2 (STF2), which acts as a toll-like receptor 5 ligand. The vaccine is administered via intramuscular injection and was designed to induce an immune response against highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses[2][3][1].
