VAX172 is a recombinant fusion protein vaccine candidate designed to provide protection against influenza B viruses of the Victoria lineage. Developed by VaxInnate, the molecule consists of the globular head of the influenza hemagglutinin (HA) protein genetically fused to flagellin, a ligand for Toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5). This design utilizes flagellin as an intrinsic adjuvant to stimulate the innate immune system and enhance the adaptive response to the HA antigen. VAX172 was evaluated in clinical trials as a constituent of VAX2012Q, a quadrivalent seasonal influenza vaccine. The platform aims to improve vaccine efficacy and manufacturing speed compared to traditional egg-based methods by utilizing recombinant protein expression in bacterial systems.
