Overview

VAXXINACT H5 is a monovalent, inactivated, cell-culture-derived vaccine designed to provide active immunization against the H5N1 subtype of the Influenza A virus, commonly known as avian influenza. Developed by Medigen Vaccine Biologics Corp (MVC) using their proprietary Madin-Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cell culture platform, the vaccine contains inactivated H5N1 virus particles adjuvanted with aluminum hydroxide. It is intended for use in pandemic preparedness or in response to outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza. The vaccine works by inducing the production of neutralizing antibodies against the hemagglutinin (HA) protein of the H5N1 virus, thereby preventing viral entry and infection. This cell-culture-based manufacturing approach offers a more scalable and rapid production method compared to traditional egg-based vaccines. VAXXINACT H5 was granted accelerated approval by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) to bolster national biosecurity and strategic stockpiling.
