Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VAXXITEK HVT + IBD is a **recombinant viral vector veterinary vaccine** for chickens developed by **Boehringer Ingelheim** to prevent **Marek's disease** and **infectious bursal disease**. The product uses **herpesvirus of turkey** as the live viral vector backbone and expresses the **VP2 protein** of **infectious bursal disease virus**, enabling dual protection: the HVT backbone provides protection against Marek's disease while recombinant VP2 expression induces protective immunity against IBD. It is administered at the hatchery either **in ovo** to 18-19 day embryonated eggs or to **day-old chicks**, and it has been described as the first marketed HVT-IBD vector vaccine and the platform product for the broader VAXXITEK poultry vaccine portfolio.
