Overview

Vayarol is a medical food intended for the clinical dietary management of hypertriglyceridemia. It consists of a proprietary composition of omega-3 fatty acids, specifically eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), covalently bound to phospholipids, primarily phosphatidylcholine. This phospholipid-omega-3 complex is designed to mimic the natural structure of omega-3s found in krill or certain fish, potentially enhancing bioavailability and integration into cellular membranes compared to standard fish oil supplements. By delivering these essential fatty acids, Vayarol helps reduce serum triglyceride levels and support cardiovascular health. It was developed by Vaya Pharma, a division of Enzymotec (now part of IFF). The product was discontinued in the United States market around 2018 following regulatory scrutiny regarding the classification of such products as medical foods for specific chronic conditions.
