Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VB-01 is an advanced therapy medicinal product (ATMP) consisting of allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (aASCs) seeded onto a proprietary, biocompatible collagen membrane scaffold. Developed by Viscofan BioEngineering (a division of Viscofan), this regenerative therapy is intended for the treatment of ischaemic cardiomyopathy and chronic heart failure. The product is applied surgically to the epicardium, typically during coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The collagen membrane serves as a delivery vehicle that enhances the localized retention and survival of the stem cells at the site of myocardial injury. Once applied, the aASCs exert their therapeutic effects primarily through paracrine signaling, secreting a variety of pro-angiogenic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic factors. These factors aim to stimulate myocardial repair, improve cardiac remodeling, and enhance overall heart function in patients with damaged heart tissue.
