Overview

VB-87531 is a highly potent small molecule inhibitor of human monoacylglycerol acyltransferase 2 (hMOGAT2), an enzyme that plays a crucial role in triglyceride re-synthesis and fat absorption. In preclinical studies, VB-87531 administration in obese mice fed a high-fat diet led to weight loss, reduced food intake, and improved metabolic parameters including lower blood cholesterol and glucose, with no observed liver toxicity. It also demonstrates synergy with GLP-1 receptor agonists (such as semaglutide) and GLP-1/GIP dual receptor agonists (such as tirzepatide) in enhancing weight loss and reducing appetite, suggesting its potential use both as monotherapy and in combination therapies for obesity and weight management[1][3].
