Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VB4-A79 is a preclinical-stage small molecule drug candidate being developed by Vectus Biosystems for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), asbestosis, and coal dust pneumoconiosis (black lung disease). Derived from Vectus's proprietary library of over 1,000 compounds, VB4-A79 is designed as a vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) mimetic and natriuretic peptide receptor C (NPR-C) agonist. It aims to replicate the anti-fibrotic properties of VIP, which has been shown to reverse existing tissue scarring and prevent further fibrotic progression. Preclinical studies in bleomycin-treated rat models have demonstrated that VB4-A79 can successfully reverse established pulmonary fibrosis, showing thinner alveoli walls, improved capillary structure, and near-normal lung architecture restoration.
