Drug intelligence / Profile preview
vB_AbM_HMGU is a lytic bacteriophage targeting multidrug-resistant *Acinetobacter baumannii* biofilms. Developed by Helmholtz Munich and the Technical University of Munich, this phage encodes unique ribosomal and transcriptional regulatory proteins that counteract the translation-inhibiting effects of macrolide antibiotics, thereby enhancing biofilm degradation and showing synergistic activity when combined with macrolides. Additionally, infection with vB_AbM_HMGU induces beneficial mutations in the host bacterium, reducing virulence and restoring antibiotic susceptibility.
