Overview

VBI-1501 is a prophylactic vaccine candidate developed to prevent cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. It utilizes proprietary enveloped virus-like particle (eVLP) technology to present a modified form of the glycoprotein B (gB) found on CMV. The vaccine is designed to induce neutralizing antibody responses against multiple cell types infected by CMV, including fibroblast and epithelial cells. In Phase 1 clinical trials, VBI-1501 demonstrated safety and immunogenicity at all tested doses, with the highest dose eliciting protective neutralizing antibodies in 100% of subjects for fibroblast cell infection and in 31% for epithelial cell infection after three vaccinations. The vaccine is administered intramuscularly and continues development as a potential preventive measure against congenital CMV infection[1][2][3][6][7].
