Overview

VBI-2901a is a trivalent, investigational pan-coronavirus vaccine candidate developed using enveloped virus-like particle (eVLP) technology. It expresses the spike proteins of three beta-coronaviruses—SARS-CoV-2 (the virus responsible for COVID-19), SARS-CoV (SARS), and MERS-CoV (MERS)—with the goal of inducing broad neutralizing antibody and cell-mediated immune responses against multiple coronavirus strains and variants. The vaccine is formulated with an aluminum phosphate adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity. Developed by VBI Vaccines in collaboration with the National Research Council Canada, it is being evaluated as a booster in adults previously vaccinated against COVID-19. Its primary indication is prevention of diseases caused by SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV, and MERS-CoV[1][2][3][4][5].
