Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VBP-245 is a topical 2% gel formulation of povidone-iodine (PVP-I), developed by Veloce BioPharma for the treatment of molluscum contagiosum and warts. Povidone-iodine is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent capable of eradicating bacteria, viruses, yeasts, molds, fungi, and protozoa. Its mechanism involves non-specific inhibition of electron transport and cellular respiration in microorganisms, destabilization of cell membranes, inhibition of protein synthesis, and denaturation of nucleic acids. This non-specific action reduces the risk for resistance development compared to conventional antibiotics or antivirals[1][4][8]. The drug has completed Phase II clinical trials in pediatric patients with molluscum contagiosum and in patients with warts[3][5][9].
