VBX-100

VBX-100 is a glycosylated cannabinoid prodrug, specifically a glycosylated form of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), developed for the targeted treatment of inflammatory conditions in the gastrointestinal tract. The drug is designed to deliver THC directly to the large intestine by attaching glucose molecules to THC via proprietary enzymatic biosynthesis methods. This site-specific delivery ensures that THC is released locally in the gut, minimizing systemic absorption and thereby avoiding psychoactive effects typically associated with cannabinoids. The mechanism relies on gut microbes cleaving off the glucose moiety in the colon, releasing active THC at the site of inflammation. VBX-100 has received Orphan Drug Designation from the FDA for pediatric ulcerative colitis and is being investigated for other indications such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea and colitis, narcotic bowel syndrome, and potentially colorectal cancer[1][3][4][5][7][8].
