Overview
VBY-036 is a selective, small molecule, second-generation cathepsin S inhibitor developed by Virobay as an oral treatment for neuropathic pain. It acts as a potent, competitive, and reversible inhibitor of cathepsin S with high selectivity against related human cathepsins and other enzymes. Preclinical studies demonstrated sustained inhibition of cathepsin S after oral dosing. The drug was evaluated in phase 1 clinical trials to assess safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in healthy volunteers. Although initially considered for neuropathic pain and Alzheimer's disease, no recent development has been reported[1][2][3][4].
