Overview

VBY-376 is a small molecule drug developed by Virobay for the treatment of hepatitis C and other liver-related diseases. It acts as an inhibitor of cathepsin B (CTSB) and the hepatitis C virus (HCV) nonstructural proteins NS3 and NS4, which are proteases essential for viral replication. The drug was investigated primarily as an antiviral agent targeting HCV infection, with additional development efforts in hepatic fibrosis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Clinical trials included phase 1 studies evaluating safety and pharmacokinetics in healthy adults[1][2][3][4]. Development for hepatitis C has been discontinued, while no further development has been reported for hepatic fibrosis or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis[2].
