Overview

VC-CAR-T is an investigational autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy developed by Guangzhou 8th People's Hospital for the treatment of HIV infection. The therapy involves the genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express a CAR designed to recognize and bind to HIV-1 antigens, typically the viral envelope glycoprotein (gp120). This treatment is specifically being evaluated in HIV-infected individuals who have achieved viral suppression through combined antiretroviral therapy (cART). The primary therapeutic objective is to reconstitute HIV-specific immune function and facilitate the identification and eradication of the latent HIV reservoir, which remains a significant obstacle to a functional cure for HIV.
