Overview

VCAR33 is a donor-derived chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapy that targets the CD33 protein on the surface of myeloid cells. It is manufactured from lymphocytes collected from a patient’s original allogeneic stem cell transplant donor, resulting in CAR-T cells that are HLA-matched to the recipient’s engrafted blood system. This approach aims to improve expansion, persistence, and anti-leukemia activity compared to autologous CAR-T products. The primary indication for VCAR33 is relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) following allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (alloHCT). The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials for this population. The U.S. FDA has granted Fast Track and Orphan Drug Designation to VCAR33[1][2][3][6].
