Overview

VCB-1502 is a nanobody-based anti-angiogenic therapeutic being developed by Vaxcell-Bio Therapeutics for the treatment of macular degeneration. The drug functions by binding to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and blocking its interaction with the VEGF receptor (VEGFR), thereby inhibiting pathological neovascularization. Due to its nanobody structure, VCB-1502 is significantly smaller than conventional antibodies, which may provide superior intraocular permeability and allow for more versatile drug delivery system (DDS)-based administration routes, including potential non-invasive delivery. Vaxcell-Bio Therapeutics is co-developing a DDS formulation for this therapy in partnership with Seoul National University.
