VCH-759 is an oral small molecule antiviral drug that acts as a non-nucleoside inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. It was initially developed by ViroChem and later acquired by Vertex Pharmaceuticals for clinical development targeting chronic hepatitis C infection. The compound competitively inhibits the NS5B polymerase enzyme, thereby blocking viral RNA synthesis and halting HCV replication. In early-phase clinical trials (up to Phase 2), VCH-759 demonstrated significant reductions in HCV RNA levels in patients with genotype 1a/1b infections and was generally well tolerated; however, viral rebound associated with resistant variants was observed in some participants. Its development status remains pending or discontinued after initial studies[1][2][5][6].
