Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VCI-002 (EPIPLANT) is a preclinical-stage drug-device combination product being developed by Vinci Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of retinal diseases, including diabetic macular edema (DME) and intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Licensed from the Retina Foundation of the Southwest, the technology consists of a bioerodible episcleral implant designed to be placed on the outer surface of the eye. This platform provides sustained, needle-free drug delivery of small molecule active ingredients directly to retinal tissues, specifically targeting the macula, to reduce the treatment burden associated with frequent intravitreal injections. Vinci Pharmaceuticals plans to initiate a Phase 1/2a first-in-human clinical study for VCI-002 in 2027.
