Overview

VCR-HIVDNA006-00-VP is an experimental DNA vaccine developed for the prevention of HIV infection. It is a plasmid DNA vaccine encoding four HIV proteins—gag, pol, Nef, and Env. When injected into humans, the plasmid DNA instructs cells to produce small amounts of these HIV proteins, aiming to elicit an immune response against HIV without causing infection. The drug was initially developed by the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Its primary indication is as a prophylactic vaccine for Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 (HIV-1) in healthy adults[1][2]. The mechanism involves immunostimulation through presentation of viral antigens to induce both cellular and humoral immunity.
