VE-01902 is an orally bioavailable small molecule inhibitor of activated Factor XI (FXIa) being developed by VersaPeutics for the prevention of thromboembolic disorders, including atrial fibrillation. By selectively targeting FXIa, VE-01902 aims to inhibit the intrinsic pathway of coagulation, which is primarily involved in pathological thrombosis, while sparing the extrinsic pathway required for normal hemostasis. This mechanism is intended to provide effective anticoagulation with a significantly reduced risk of major bleeding compared to traditional anticoagulants that target Factor Xa or thrombin. The compound has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamic profile in healthy volunteers, including assessments of its hemostatic profile and food-effect crossover studies.
