VE-4840

VE-4840 is a first-in-class, orally administered small molecule drug candidate developed by Verseon. It is a prodrug that acts as a potent and highly selective reversible covalent inhibitor of plasma kallikrein, a validated protein target implicated in the disease pathways of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic macular edema (DME). The drug has demonstrated significant reduction of diabetes-induced retinal vascular permeability in preclinical in vivo models and also decreases VEGF-induced retinal thickening and vascular permeability. VE-4840 is being developed as a potential oral alternative to current invasive intravitreal injection treatments for diabetic eye diseases.
