Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VE416 is an investigational, orally administered live biotherapeutic product (LBP) developed by Vedanta Biosciences for the treatment of food allergies, particularly peanut allergy. [27, 29, 30] It is comprised of a defined consortium of commensal bacterial strains produced from pure, clonal cell banks, ensuring a uniform and pathogen-free composition. [24, 29] The drug is designed to modulate the gut microbiome to induce immune tolerance to food allergens. [22] In clinical trials, VE416 has been studied as a monotherapy and in combination with peanut oral immunotherapy (PNOIT). [22] Preclinical studies in mice demonstrated that VE416 could induce protective immunoregulatory responses and reduce allergic symptoms. [27]
