Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VE707 is a preclinical-stage oral live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of a rationally defined consortium of commensal human gut bacteria. Developed by Vedanta Biosciences, it is designed to decolonize the gastrointestinal tract of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), including carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producers, and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE). The therapy aims to restore a healthy gut microbiota, thereby preventing serious infections and colonization recurrence in high-risk patients without the use of traditional antibiotics. The program has received significant non-dilutive funding from CARB-X and BARDA to support its advancement toward first-in-human clinical trials.
