Overview
Vectron T500 is an indoor residual spray (IRS) insecticide developed by Mitsui Chemicals Crop & Life Solutions in collaboration with the Innovative Vector Control Consortium (IVCC) for the control of malaria-carrying mosquitoes. Its active ingredient is broflanilide, a meta-diamide insecticide that represents a novel chemical class with a unique mode of action. It acts as an antagonist at insect gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors, blocking inhibitory neurotransmission and leading to hyperexcitation and death of the insect. The product is specifically designed to combat pyrethroid-resistant malaria vectors, such as Anopheles gambiae, and has received WHO prequalification. It is formulated as a wettable powder and demonstrates long-lasting residual efficacy on various surfaces for 6 to 18 months.
