VEE VLP vaccine is an investigational virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine designed to prevent infection with Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV), an alphavirus that causes severe encephalitic disease in humans and equids and is considered a potential biological warfare agent.[2][3] The vaccine consists of noninfectious VLPs that display VEEV structural proteins (capsid and envelope glycoproteins) but lack viral genomic RNA, thereby mimicking the native virion to elicit neutralizing antibody and cellular immune responses while avoiding the risk of replication.[2][4][8] A monovalent VEE VLP study agent, corresponding to the VEE component of the NIAID trivalent alphaviral VLP vaccine, has been evaluated in a clinical trial in healthy adults to assess safety and immunogenicity for protection against VEEV exposure.[3] The platform is being developed primarily for prophylaxis against Venezuelan equine encephalitis in at‑risk or potentially exposed populations, leveraging the rapid and scalable production advantages of VLP-based vaccines.[1][5][8]
