Overview

This investigational autologous cell therapy consists of adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (ASCs) harvested from a patient's own abdominal fat. Developed by Rigshospitalet at the University of Copenhagen, the cells are culture-expanded and stimulated with vascular endothelial growth factor-A165 (VEGF-A165) to enhance their angiogenic potential. The therapy is administered via intramyocardial injections into ischemic but viable heart tissue. It is primarily intended for patients with chronic myocardial ischemia and refractory angina who have exhausted conventional revascularization options. The treatment aims to improve myocardial perfusion and cardiac function through paracrine signaling and the promotion of neovascularization.
