Overview

**VEGF-Kinoid** is a therapeutic vaccine designed to induce an active immune response against vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) for anti-angiogenic therapy. It consists of a heterocomplex of murine or human VEGF conjugated to keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH), which triggers production of neutralizing anti-VEGF antibodies that inhibit VEGF binding to its receptor VEGFR2 (Flk-1), blocking endothelial cell proliferation and tumor neovascularization. Developed as an alternative to passive anti-VEGF monoclonal antibodies like bevacizumab, it demonstrated efficacy in preclinical models by reducing tumor growth (e.g., A673 rhabdomyosarcoma, HT29 colon carcinoma xenografts) and lung metastases in CT26 colorectal tumor-challenged mice, with antibody levels achieving comparable inhibition to therapeutic bevacizumab doses.
