Overview

VEGF857 is an antisense oligodeoxynucleotide (AS-ODN) designed to target and inhibit the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). By binding to VEGF mRNA, it prevents the translation of the protein, thereby inhibiting neo-angiogenesis and sensitizing tumor cells to chemotherapy. In preclinical studies involving human transitional bladder cancer cell lines (EJ28 and 5637), VEGF857 has demonstrated the ability to significantly enhance the cytotoxic effects of agents such as mitomycin C, gemcitabine, and cisplatin by promoting antisense-mediated apoptosis. It is primarily investigated as a potential additive approach to enhance the therapeutic benefit of intravesical instillation treatment schedules for bladder cancer.
