Overview

VEGFA shRNA is an experimental gene-silencing therapeutic that utilizes short hairpin RNA (shRNA) to target and degrade the messenger RNA (mRNA) of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A (VEGFA). By reducing the expression of VEGFA, the agent inhibits tumor-induced angiogenesis, which is a critical driver of tumor growth and progression. In preclinical research for bladder cancer, VEGFA shRNA is used to normalize tumor vasculature and enhance the infiltration of CD8+ cytotoxic T cells into the tumor microenvironment. Research indicates that while VEGFA inhibition alone has modest benefits in certain stages of bladder cancer, its combination with other pro-angiogenic inhibitors (such as PGF shRNA) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (like anti-PD-1) can significantly improve therapeutic outcomes and survival rates by overcoming resistance to immunotherapy.
