VEGFA siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A (VEGFA). It functions through the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, where the siRNA sequence guides the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to bind and cleave VEGFA messenger RNA (mRNA), thereby preventing the translation of the VEGFA protein. VEGFA is a critical signaling protein that promotes angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels) and increases vascular permeability. By inhibiting VEGFA production, this therapeutic approach aims to treat conditions characterized by pathological neovascularization, such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, corneal neovascularization, and various solid tumors. Because naked siRNA is susceptible to degradation and has poor cellular uptake, it is typically formulated with delivery vehicles such as lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), exosomes, or targeted peptide carriers.
