VEGI-174

VEGI-174 is a specific full-length isoform of the Vascular Endothelial Growth Inhibitor (VEGI), also known as Tumor Necrosis Factor Superfamily Member 15 (TNFSF15). It is an anti-angiogenic cytokine that plays a critical role in inhibiting tumor-related vasculature. Research conducted by Crown Biosciences and Capital Medical University has explored the therapeutic potential of VEGI-174 in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). In preclinical xenograft models, the forced expression of VEGI-174 has been shown to significantly reduce tumor volume and microvessel density. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of endothelial cell proliferation and the ability of these cells to form capillary-like structures, likely mediated through the downregulation of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 2 (VEGFR2) and interaction with Death Receptor 3 (DR3). Unlike some truncated recombinant versions of VEGI, the full-length VEGI-174 isoform may exhibit cancer-type-specific antitumor activity.
