Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The vehicle control gel is a topical placebo formulation developed by Mimetica Pty Limited for use as a comparator in clinical trials of MTC896 Gel, a treatment for acne vulgaris. This vehicle contains the same inactive excipients as the active MTC896 formulations but lacks the active pharmaceutical ingredient, which is a small molecule melanocortin receptor 5 (MC5R) antagonist. It was utilized in Phase 2 clinical studies (e.g., NCT02395549) to evaluate the relative efficacy, safety, and tolerability of MTC896 at various concentrations (0.375%, 0.75%, and 1.5% w/w) when applied twice daily over a 12-week period. The vehicle serves to establish a baseline for clinical outcomes, allowing for the assessment of the active drug's therapeutic effect beyond that of the formulation base itself.
