Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The vehicle foam is a proprietary, inactive topical delivery system developed by Vyne Therapeutics (formerly Foamix Pharmaceuticals) using its Molecule Stabilizing Technology (MST). It was utilized as the placebo control in clinical trials (such as FX2015-10 and FX2016-11) for Zilxi (FMX-103), a 1.5% minocycline foam indicated for the treatment of inflammatory lesions of papulopustular rosacea. The vehicle is designed to be a stable, non-irritating foam base containing moisturizing ingredients like coconut oil and soybean oil, but it lacks the active antibiotic ingredient, minocycline. Its primary purpose in drug development was to provide a baseline for safety and efficacy comparisons against the active minocycline formulation, helping to isolate the therapeutic effects of the drug from the properties of the foam carrier itself.
