vehicle plaster

The vehicle plaster is a placebo control used in the PATCH trial (NCT04570293), a multicenter, randomized withdrawal study conducted by Beijing Tiantan Hospital to evaluate the efficacy and safety of 5% lidocaine-medicated plaster for trigeminal neuralgia. This topical plaster is designed to be physically identical to the active 5% lidocaine-medicated plaster (LMP) in appearance and adhesive properties but lacks the active pharmaceutical ingredient, lidocaine. In the trial, it serves as the comparator during the double-blind randomized withdrawal phase to assess the treatment effect versus the placebo effect in patients who responded to initial open-label lidocaine treatment.
