vehicle vaginal cream

The vehicle vaginal cream is a placebo control formulation developed by Actavis Inc. (now part of Teva Pharmaceuticals) for use in Phase 3 clinical trials. It was specifically designed as the inactive comparator for a generic version of Estradiol Vaginal Cream 0.01%. The vehicle contains the same inactive base ingredients as the test product but lacks the active estrogenic component, estradiol. It was utilized in randomized, double-blind studies to evaluate the therapeutic equivalence of the generic cream to the reference product, Estrace, and to demonstrate the superiority of active treatments over a non-medicated control in postmenopausal women suffering from atrophic vaginitis.
