veldoreotide

Veldoreotide is a synthetic cyclic peptide and somatostatin analogue (SSA) that acts as a full agonist at somatostatin receptor subtypes 2, 4, and 5. It is under investigation primarily for the treatment of acromegaly, with orphan drug designation for this indication. Unlike other SSAs such as octreotide and pasireotide, veldoreotide demonstrates high efficacy in activating Somatostatin receptor subtype 4 (SSTR4) in addition to Somatostatin receptor subtype 2 (SSTR2) and Somatostatin receptor subtype 5 (SSTR5). This unique receptor binding profile may offer clinical advantages, including reduced adverse effects on gastrointestinal function and glucose metabolism compared to existing SSAs.
