Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Veldoreotide-conjugated quantum dots is an experimental theranostic agent developed by Al-Azhar University for the topical treatment and bioimaging of breast cancer. The formulation consists of veldoreotide, a somatostatin receptor (SSTR) agonist, conjugated to CdS/ZnS core-shell quantum dots with carboxylic acid functionalization (QDs-COOH). Delivered as a topical cream using emulsion technology, the agent is designed for deep deposition into breast tissue. Veldoreotide serves as a targeting ligand for SSTRs on cancer cells, while the quantum dots provide both therapeutic anti-cancer activity and fluorescent properties for diagnostic imaging. This approach aims to localize treatment and minimize systemic exposure.
